Melody Whistles Row, Row, Row Your Boat (sort of)

jusuwa asked:

Melody, my Crimson Rosella (parrot), waves her fist and whistles her own special interpretation of “Row Row Row Your Boat.” She likes her favorite line, the ‘merrily merrily merrily’ part, to come AFTER “life is but a dream.”

She follows this with a reprise of her favorite notes from the song, and ends in her signature style (to notice that I’m looking and suddenly stop).

You can’t really hear it, but she’s responding to the squeaking of the rocking chair I’m in, which is why the camera is so shaky.

My Rosella Whistles many tunes. He does Bridge on the river qi, you are my sunshine, happy birthday, jingle bells, Mexican hat dance, as well as the wolf whistle, police sirens, kisses, and makes a baby chick noise among others. I whistle to him every day, and I spend a lot of time with him. Repetition is the key!!!

I dunno, I whistled to her a lot when she was a baby (well, under two years). She used to always squawk and make a bunch of noise whenever I left the room. I made a point of going back whenever she whistled instead of squawking so she’d learn that whistling was a better way to say “hey, come back.” So then she started whistling about other things.
